1st Round

Kilrush Shamrocks 1-9 KIB 1-5

Match Report

The shams U21 team had a good victory over a fancied Kilmurry Ibrickane team last weekend in the 1st Round of the U21 A county championship. Lining out with a number of our senior and minor stars the shams took the game to KIB from the off and never looked like losing.

There were very strong performances from Matthew Maloney, Donal Madigan, brothers Seamus and Dara Bolton, Sean Clancy and Jamie Gilligan with Con Prendiville getting the all important goal mid way through the second half. The shams now play Milltown Malbay in the quarter final. Incidently the final score from Cooraclare was Kilrush 1-9 KIB 1-5.

Kilrush Team: Calum Bond, Joe Carmody, Seamus Bolton(-1), Niall Gilbride, Smiley Downes, Matthew Maloney, Donal Madigan, Chris Dixon, Sean Clancy, Dara Bolton(-1), Eoin Tarrant, David Moran (-2), Con Prendiville (1-1), Sean Madigan & Jamie Gilligan (-4).

Round 1

Kilrush Shamrocks -8 Kilmihil -10

Match Report

For the second year in a row the shams bowed out of the U21 championship at the quarter final stage. Playing against a very strong wind in the first half the shams were on the back foot almost immediately when Jamie Gilligan was sent off. It took the shams a while to recover from this early blow and it was not long until they found themselves 3 points down. Some stalwart defending from Chris Dixon, Butcher Moloney and Donal Madigan kept Kilmihil at bay for most of the first half. Following relentless pressure from Kilmihil they picked off a number of good scores near the end of the first half to leave the half time score Kilmihil -8, Kilrush -1.
The Kilrush management team made a number of changes at half time and the move of Chris Dixon from full back to full forward proved very successful. Kilmihil kicked the first score of the second half but from then on the shams dominated the game kicking the next seven scores. Three scores came from the boot of Chris Dixon, three from Rory O'Connor and one from Shane Honan. With 10 mins remaining the game could have gone either way with the next score going to be decisive but unfortunately it went to Kilmihil. It proved to be the final score of the game.

Kilrush Team: Joe McInerney, Shane Honan (-1), Chris Dixon (-3), Sean Downes, Seamus Bolton, Matthew Moloney, Donal Madigan, John Hayes, David Moran, Sean Lahiffe, Cathal Lyons, Gavin Duffy, Rory O'Connor (-4), Ronan Gilbride, Jamie Gilligan.
Subs: Mark O'Donnell for Ronan Gilbride.

Round 1

Kilrush Shamrocks -7 Doonbeg -13

Match Report

The shams U21 team lost their quarter final tie with Doonbeg by -13 to -7 last Friday evening in Cooraclare. The shams who played in to the breeze in the first half struggled to contain the good movement of the Doonbeg forward line and trailed -10 to -3 at half time.
To their credit they tried to rally in the second half but some bad decision making and Doonbeg scoring vital scores at the right time ensured that the shams journey would end at the first hurdle.

Kilrush Team: John O'Brien, Christopher Dixon, Danny Lynch, Ronan Thornton, Matther Moloney, John Hayes, Sean Downes, Padraig O'Flynn (-1), Paddy Clancy (-1), Shane Honan, Cathal Lyons, Brian Moran, Sean Naughton, Ruairi O'Connor (-3), Jamie Gilligan (-2)
Colm Hogan for Brian Moran; Sean Lafiffe for Cathal Lyons (inj), Seamus Bolton for Sean Downes.
